Stockton Consultancy Assists CO-OP Major Development:

Penrith Co-op Society Head Office & main store Burrowgate in Centre of Penrith is undergoing a Major Multi Million pound redevelopment. Work began on the 60,000 square foot department store & food hall in June & will be complete by March 2008.

Stockton - on-Tees Shop equipment Design & Consultancy Company, Plan ~ net. Uro Ltd. , who have worked with the Society for 15 years, were chosen to provide design merchandise layouts for the departments, source equipment and conduct the project management for the re-development.

Dennis Bailey Managing Director of Plan~Net Uro first suggested the idea for the Redevelopment with Penrith Co-op in 2004, to enable the Society to update its offer & to compete with its current and future competitors in the town. 

John Mills CEO Retail operations Of the Co-op says “ Plan ~ net Uro, once again are able to offer a service to us that not only designed the aesthetics of the redevelopment, but are providing us with a practical merchandised layout and most importantly helped me purchase high quality fixtures & fittings at a price, significantly less than through other sources.”

“The store, till the work began had only been revamped, in small ways over the last 10 years”.

This complete overall re-development includes major building & architectural improvements, updated services as well as the new Shopfittings & Display items.

Dennis set up Plan~net. Uro , in 1997, with the aim of working with Independent northern retailers after over 20 years running larger companies supplying shop equipment to national retailers such as various National Co-operatives Societies/Tesco/Safeway/Superdrug etc.

Dennis says, “This project is important to me, after my initial conception of its need, and my long term close relationship the client.”

I have to date provided my services to the complete overall refit of the first floor non-food departments and have just completed the first phase of the Ground floor Food Hall re-vamp.

The rest of the food hall and integrated non-food departments will be carried out over the coming months. Apart from design, planning and sourcing the shop fittings, I have also had the idea of renaming the first floor departments, @19 , complete with my suggested, new logo (the sites address being 19 Burrowgate), with Departments being re branded as – STYLE @19 (fashions) /HOME @19 (cook shop, gifts etc) / RELAX @19 (Café) etc.

Whilst this project will take up a lot of my time in the New Year I am also expecting to begin work on another independent Co-operatives Food Hall re-fit and working on 3 or 4 Charity shop developments.
